The Zimbabwe Power Co. recently expanded its 920-MW Hwange coal-fired power plant by adding two 300-MW units at a cost of $1.4-billion, according to Reuters. Most of the funding for the project (85%) came from Sinohydro, a Chinese backed firm. The first unit came online last month and ZPC said the second unit will be commissioned in October. The Hwange facility, which was built in 1983, was performing below capacity and has now received a much-needed upgrade.
