The majority of the coal Massey intends to ship through IMT will be metallurgical coal originating from Massey’s Central Appalachia mines destined for the export market. River barges will transport the coal from various upriver origins to IMT where the cargo will be offloaded and stored before being loaded onto ocean vessels. The term of the agreement is 15 years with a minimum anticipated throughput tonnage of 4 million tons per year. To accommodate the additional tonnage, Kinder Morgan will expand the storage yard, add conveyor belts and environmental control systems, and make other improvements. These upgrades are expected to be completed by mid-2012.
