U.S. President Barack Obama has nominated Dr. Suzette Kimball to serve as the director of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Kimball has served as acting director since February 2013 following the departure of Marcia McNutt. Prior to working with the USGS, she served at the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the National Park Service. She has been with USGS since 1998, most recently serving as deputy director.

Richard Neil Farmer, who served as general counsel of United Coal at the time Massey Energy acquired it in the late 1990s, passed away on January 5 in Hurricane, W.Va.

Bob Nemecek has been named vice president of Baldor-Dodge mechanical sales for North America.
