Navarre has been president of Peabody Americas since March of this year and has been with the company since 1993. Meintjes will be responsible for the company’s U.S. operations, a joint venture in Venezuela and business development opportunities. He also oversees the areas of health and safety; operational support; sales and marketing; finance and administration; human resources and the law function. He joined Peabody in 2007, and most recently served as group executive of Midwest and Colorado operations.
Jenny Herner, vice president of marketing administration, Arch Coal, has been named one of St. Louis’ 2012 Most Influential Business Women by the St. Louis Business Journal. The award annually recognizes remarkable women who excel in business careers and illustrate the breadth of talent and achievement among St. Louis-area leaders, according to the newspaper. Vice president of marketing administration since 2010, Herner leads and directs development and administration of coal supply, purchase, trading and logistics agreements. Her responsibilities also include contract-related compliance, including export and customs issues. She participates in contract and dispute negotiations and oversees improvement of deal-capture information systems and offer-to-agreement processes. Herner also directs and provides leadership to Arch Coal’s contract administration department.
The Coal Preparation Society of America (CPSA) has appointed Art Sanda executive director. The association also elected a new slate of officers and increased its board of directors from six to 11 members at its annual meeting held in conjunction with the 2012 International Coal Prep Conference and Exhibition. Elected to two-year terms of office were Robert W. Hollis, vice president preparation for James River Coal Co., as president; R. Hunter Davis, manager of coal preparation for Alliance Coal, LLC, as vice president; and Michael Ferguson, vice president Taggart Global, LLC, as treasurer. Barbara Arnold, president of PrepTech, Inc., was re-elected to a two-year term as secretary. Elected to serve on the board of directors for three year terms were Peter Bethell, senior processing consultant to Arch Coal, Inc. and other coal-related companies; Greg DeHart, director of coal preparation for Arch Coal, Inc.; Al Deurbrouck, formerly of the Department of Energy; Rick Honaker, chair and professor at the University of Kentucky, Mining Engineering; Jack Hopwood, director of sales for FLSmidth Krebs; Mel J. Laurila, president of Quality Control, Inc.; and Richard Whitt, president of TriDet Laboratories, Inc.
The Pennsylvania Coal Alliance has appointed former state Senator John Pippy CEO. The alliance has been formed by the merger of the Pennsylvania Coal Association and Families Organized to Represent the Coal Economy (FORCE). George Ellis, who served as president of the now-defunct Pennsylvania Coal Association, will stay on as the president of the Pennsylvania Coal Alliance, and will serve as the association’s primary lobbyist. The Pennsylvania Coal Alliance will remain headquartered at the former Pennsylvania Coal Association offices in Harrisburg.
