Coronado Global Resources Inc. announced that Gerry Spindler will retire from his role as CEO after the company’s annual general meeting to be held on or about May 25, 2023. Douglas Thompson will become CEO in accordance with Coronado’s planned succession process and Spindler will be appointed to the position of executive chair of the board.

“It has been my great honor and privilege to serve as the CEO of Coronado for more than 11 years,” Spindler said. “I am proud of the company that we have built and its leadership position in the resources sector. I would like to thank the board and the entire team at Coronado for the work that they have done during my tenure. I feel that now is the right time to step back from the role of CEO and look forward to continuing to contribute to the company as executive chair.”

Thompson has been the company’s COO for Australia, since September 2021 and has more than 25 years of experience in the mining industry, including as managing director and CEO of Thiess, an affiliate of the CIMIC Group.
