According to ABC News, in April, more than 11.8 million metric tons (mt) of coal was exported, breaking the previous record by almost 200,000 mt. The monthly record follows a calendar year record last year of more than 114 million mt worth about A$13 billion. “The Hunter Valley coal chain operated extremely well throughout April and it is a credit to all concerned that the throughput reached a record figure,” said Gary Webb, CEO, Newcastle Port Corp.
