Yoweri Museveni, Uganda’s President, called out Western countries over the double standard he sees in their response to the energy crisis brought about by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Citing the demolition of wind turbines in Germany to mine more lignite, he called Europe’s behavior hypocritical. Returning to coal-based power generation “makes a mockery of the West’s climate targets,” Museveni said. “Europe’s failure to meet its climate goals should not be Africa’s problem,” Museveni said. “We will not accept one rule for them and another rule for us.”
