New World Resources (NWR) agreed to keep its Paskov mine open until the end of 2017 after the Czech government pledged support for the miners. The government will provide roughly $30 million to cover the social costs after the mine shuts down, Industry Trade Minister Jan Mladek said during a press conference in Prague. The agreement will be renegotiated if coking coal prices drop further. NWR originally planned to shut down Paskov at the end of 2014 because of heavy financial losses.
