According to figures released by the Energy Ministry, Indonesia produced 254 million metric tons (mt) of coal in 2009, up by 5.8% year-on-year and well ahead of the government’s 230 million mt target, The Jakarta Globe reported. The Energy Ministry said that about 78% of the coal was exported to buyers in Japan, China, India, and Australia. This year, Indonesia is forecast to produce 280 million mt of coal with 75 million mt allocated for domestic use.
