The deal for the 35-acre facility, announced May 2, also includes an additional 60-acre parcel located less than a mile from the terminal complex and adjacent to the Authority’s Choctaw Point Complex.

The two have agreed to amend the terms of the coal handling agreement that currently outlines that the Port Authority oversees Walter’s coal exports through the McDuffie Coal Terminal in Mobile. Specifically, the Port Authority has agreed to a long-term extension of the deal and make terminal improvements to ensure the proper capacity for export coal once Walter’s new Blue Creek mine is completed.

Officials said they anticipate the transactions will be completed after meeting closing conditions are met.
