PBS/Corsa earned the award for best overall reclamation for its completion of the Paxton Strip site in Somerset County; half of that 237-acre site was reclaimed for prime farmland.

Also receiving awards for outstanding achievements in reclamation were Amerikohl Mining for its efforts in Armstrong, Butler, Clarion and Fayette counties and Robindale Energy Services, which completed a reclamation project in Cambria County. Corsa/PBS Coal was also recognized additional efforts at another Somerset County project.

In all, the awarded sites covered 890 acres and included the reclamation of 50 acres of previously affected abandoned mine lands. All work was performed at no cost to taxpayers and without state financial assistance.

“PCA members companies have the expertise needed to address environmental impacts of the past, and a strong long-term commitment to environmental stewardship,” PCA Executive Director Rachel Gleason said. “We commend their continued dedication to communities and the commonwealth.”

The award winners were selected by the PCA along with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Active and Abandoned Mine Operations. The evaluations were based on pre-mining condition, reclamation quality, degree of difficulty, and correction of environmental and safety hazards.
