Francois van Tonder has been appointed managing director of Eickhoff South Africa. The company recently completed a major reorganization (See Suppliers News, p. 57).
Steve Edwards has been appointed chairman, president and CEO of Black & Veatch succeeding Len Rodman. Rodman retired from Black & Veatch, after 42 years with the company and 15 years as CEO. In April, Edwards was named COO of Black & Veatch and to the company’s top leadership position following a transition period that concluded on November 27. Before becoming COO, Edwards was an executive vice president serving as executive director Global EPC for Black & Veatch’s energy business.
Joy Global announced that Edward (Ted) L. Doheny II, executive vice president of the company, and designated by the board to be Mike Sutherlin’s successor upon his retirement, has been elected to its board of directors.
Former West Virginia State Director Kelley M. Goes recently joined Jackson Kelly PLLC as a member in the firm’s Charleston, W.Va., office. Prior to joining the firm, Goes served as U.S. Senator Joe Manchin III’s state director, overseeing his West Virginia offices and operations. She previously served as the first woman to be named as secretary of commerce in West Virginia and as the executive director of the West Virginia Development Office.
John Smyth has been named vice president of global sales for Jennmar. Previously, he was the product line manager for Caterpillar.
Richard Woodward has been named vice president of marketing and sales for Mining & Utilities for Progression. Woodward previously had been the director of marketing and R&D for a business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific. Also, Laura Nunes has been named the sales manager for mining and utilities in North America, for Progression Inc.
Steinert US named Troy Robertson as engineering and service manager.
Stacey Urdiales is the new marketing manager for PT Tech.
Robert H. Quenon, 85, died recently at Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Quenon enlisted in the Army after graduating from high school and served in Korea during the U.S. occupation. When he returned, he entered into the School of Mines at WVU. His first job out of college was as a mine superintendent for Consolidation Coal Co. He worked for several other coal companies over the years and in 1978, he joined Peabody Coal Co. (now Peabody Energy) as the president and CEO. Five years later, he was named CEO of Peabody Holding Company. Robert retired as Peabody Holding Company chair in 1991. After leaving Peabody, he worked as a prominent coal industry consultant. In 1991, Quenon earned the National Coal Association’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award. He is also featured in the West Virginia Coal Mining Hall of Fame. He received an honorary Ph.D. from West Virginia University in 1988 and was named a Distinguished Engineer of Mines by the university in 2001. In 1993, the University of Missouri at Rolla established the Robert H. Quenon Chair in Mining Engineering, the first endowed chair at the school.
