The lost foam process combines foam patterns into a single assembly to create near-net castings used in a variety of parts for engines, drivetrains, chassis, suspension and steering components. During the process, the molten metal volatizes the foam pattern to form the specified part. Also, the company said it is able to reduce assembly complexity, with greater design flexibility, by integrating as many as 17 original pieces into a single assembly.
