According to Argus Media, the PWCS data confirms that Chinese demand had fallen sharply in February 2010, as the weather got warmer and demand was affected by a week long holiday in mid-February 2010 for the lunar new year. Newcastle exported a total of 7.87 million mt of coal in February 2010, of which 74% was thermal coal and the rest coking coal. January 2010 saw 7.83 million mt exported, consisting of 82% thermal coal. December 2009 exports totaled 1.47 million mt, with thermal coal accounting for 78%.
