Coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, totaled 3.61 million metric tons (mt), according to Newcastle Port Corp. The figure constitutes an increase of 12.3% compared to the previous week ended October 21, in which a week-on-week decrease of 0.6% in coal shipments had been observed. In the October 1-28 period, Newcastle port exported 11.8 million mt of thermal and coking coal. The port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 12.9 million mt for the whole month of October. Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
