The new three day course consists of one and a half days of classroom instruction followed by one and a half days of hands-on instruction. The course content and structure is tailored to the environment and applications of underground, open-pit, and strip mines, and will provide the knowledge and skill sets required for those designing, installing and maintaining fiber optic communication systems in harsh mine environments thus increasing miner safety and improving production efficiency. The course includes 15 chapters that cover fiber optics from components to systems. Disciplines include how to plan, design, install, test/inspect, maintain and perform repairs. The content also covers next generation voice, video, and data communications over IP/Ethernet fiber optic communication systems.
