Komatsu said the 980E-5SE electric drive mining truck offers increased speed on grade in deep pit applications. The model offer the highest-in-class horsepower available and is designed for increased productivity with a reduced carbon footprint.
With a 363-metric ton (mt) capacity and an operating weight of 635 mt, unit gives 3,281 kW (4,400 hp) at 1,800 rpm. Compared to predecessor models, the truck has an electric drive with fewer components for less maintenance and possible reduced life cycle costs, the supplier said.
Technologies that assist the operator include cruise control for a constant speed, traction control to correct wheel spin or slide events, and Payload Meter IV to maximize cycle efficiency.
