In less than three weeks (May 9), the U.S. Coal Show conference and exhibit will kick off at the Pittsburgh convention center.

This year, the U.S. Coal Show has some new exhibitors and many of them are bringing equipment. Highland Machinery’s new battery-powered, 50-ton 555 BSB Shield Mover will be the central focus of the show. The development for this project started in August 2021, and this is Highland’s first machine in its Shield Mover product line. The 555 BSB has dual 85 kW AC traction motors and a 240-volt battery.
Brookville will display its 8-man maintenance unit with a 3,200-lb crane and 120VAC (two 15-amp outlets) inverter. The machine features a 110-hp Cummins 4.5 engine mated to a ceramic DPF filter with a Brookville-designed exhaust dilutor for use in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. This unit was custom designed for Allegheny Metallurgical’s Longview mine in Volga, W.Va. Based on a standard Brookville platform, it features a 9-ton light duty locomotive rating and includes planetary axles, wet disc brakes, and the Jackwalker rerailing system. This unit’s cargo could include other maintenance component options like a mini rockduster, fuel buffalo, or belt maintenance attachments.
But wait, there’s more. Seetech will have a Famur powered roof support on display. Simmons Equipment Co. will also have its SE 650 Shield Hauler at the U.S. Coal Show.
More than 20 speakers will deliver presentations over the course of three days, ranging from longwall and room-and-pillar mining to coal handling and storage. Not sure what happened to Caterpillar?
