As regional natural gas prices increased, according to the EIA’s Electricity Monthly Update, only Florida has not joined the trend. The monthly average of daily spot natural gas price for New York City remained relatively high for a second straight month, going from $10.36/MMBtu in January 2013 to $10.46/MMBtu in February 2013. This occurred due to spikes in the daily spot prices as a result of a blizzard that affected the region during the month.
Other report segments noted that in February, net U.S. power generation fell 0.2% from the same period year-on-year. Retail electricity sales, meanwhile, increased 0.9% from February 2012; average retail electricity prices that month were also up 1.8% from the same month in 2012.
