The team also includes Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy and Southern States Energy Board researchers. Within the wells, the seams will be injected and stored with 20,000 tons of CO2 over a year-long period, complementing a 1,000-ton 2009 test. Higher CO2 absorption and increased methane release is expected in the seams ranging from 900 to 2,200 ft deep and up to 2.5 ft thick.
