Mining engineering professor Roger Thompson, a recognized haul road expert, will address the cost decision associated with the design and maintenance of haul roads at the 2019 Haulage & Loading conference, which takes place March 11-13 at the Hilton El Conquistador in Tucson, Arizona.
“A question many surface mine operators face is how to justify expenditure on a haul road, either as new construction or a rebuild of an existing road,” Thompson said. “Various design methodologies can be used to build a new road, some approaches being more cost effective than others. For a rebuild, however, how can investment in road improvements be justified?”
His presentation will examine these questions, from both conventional and future autonomous haulage standpoints.
