The company has already snapped up 40,000 hectare around Wandoan, north of Miles, for a planned $6 billion coal mine and rail project that will be among the world’s largest. Among its plans, Xstrata said the application for the new areas covered 8,895 hectare and would include 10 new open cut coal pits.
