According to government statistics, Russian exports of coal increased by 7.9% year-on-year to 65.3 million metric tons (mt) for the first half of 2013. In June alone, Russia exported 11.7 million mt of coal, up 22.3% compared to June 2012. Total Russian coal production reached 171.4 million mt during the first half of 2013, a 1.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
