Other plans involve changes in production parameters, KW’s acting CEO Marek Uszko told the Polish Press Agency. The company plans to reduce the number of mining units by one-third and merge some of its mines. The Knurów-Szczygeowice mine is expected to be sold to Jastrzebska Spóeka Weglowa. By 2020, the number of employees should be reduced to 50,000. Despite losing some of its mines, KW expects to extract a similar amount of coal as it does today. In 2014, the company plans to mine some 33 million metric tons (mt), compared to 39 million mt in 2012.
