According to Dow Jones, the rail project would support an initial 27 million metric tons per year (mtpy) port to be constructed at Wiggins Island near Gladstone by March 2015. Construction of the rail project will begin early next year with first railings in mid-2014 ahead of completion by March 2015. Along with Gladstone’s existing 69 million mtpy RG Tanna coal terminal that would raise exports from the city to nearly 100 million mt annually, on a par with current exports from Newcastle.
