New Underground Mine to Start Production in Indonesia

According to Intellasia.net, the new mine, which is a 50:50 joint venture between an with Jiangxi, China-based Zhongding International Engineering, is expected to produce 600,000 metric tons (mt) of thermal coal in 2012. The joint venture already operates one 300,000-mtpy underground thermal coal mine, adjacent to the new mine, which began commercial production in June 2009. Coal is transported by truck from the existing mine to the government-owned Pulau Baii port, which can accommodate 9,500-mt barges.
