However in terms of cost, coal purchases decreased by 33.3%. The main suppliers of coal to Japan are Australia and Indonesia which supply 82.4% of the total volume of coal import to Japan. In January to February 2010, Japan imported 12.52 million mt of coking coal which was up 8.7% on January to February 2009. In terms of cost, coking coal import fell by 44.9% to JPY 133.5 billion. The average import price decreased by 49.7 % to $117.3/mt.
