The Czech police and state attorneys have questioned former Prime Minister Milos Zeman (in office 1998-2002) and his cabinet ministers in connection with the controversial privatization of the Mostecka uhelna coal mining company, the Czech News Agency reported. Representatives of the Swiss prosecutor’s office were present during the questioning. Mostecka uhelna was privatized at the end of the 1990s. According to the police, businesspeople gained control of it 1998 for the money that the firm was to deposit in reserve funds for future recultivation. The billions of crowns, however, allegedly disappeared in foreign accounts instead. The Swiss suspect seven people of money laundering and unfair management of public interests in connection with the privatization deal.
