Westmoreland’s coal resource position now stands at about 553 million tons of proven and probable reserves and an additional 625 million tons of resources requiring additional drilling to comply with SEC standards before reserve classification.

“Securing adequate resources to meet our long-term customer commitments has been a high priority,” said CEO Robert P. King. “I am pleased we have achieved this significant milestone and solidified our resource position.”

This year, through its Absaloka mine, Westmoreland leased 145 million tons of Rosebud McKay resources from the Crow indigenous tribe, while the Rosebud mine leased 56.4 million tons of resources from a private landowner.
