Those services—including tailored research and development work, product validation, and turnkey coating and finish machining by the global Cat Reman network—now are marketed by Shermco Industries, based in Irving, Texas. Shermco is a long established provider of testing, repair, maintenance and analysis of rotating apparatus and electrical power distribution systems and related equipment in North America.

“The strength of the Caterpillar research and development capabilities enables us to identify and validate a solution efficiently, and our network of state-of-the-art remanufacturing facilities allows us to apply the solution, all within our organization,” said Tony Zampogna Jr., commercial manager of Industrial Solutions Advanced Wear Coatings for Cat. “The marketing agreement with Shermco leverages their understanding of industrial customers to identify the best opportunities for Caterpillar technical capabilities to solve problems, and in the end to reduce costs for the end user—the same thing we do with Cat heavy equipment.”

The metal deposition wear coating processes performed by Caterpillar include laser cladding, twin wire arc spray, HVOF thermal spray coatings, plasma transfer arc weld, cold spray and bore spray. Finish machining to the highest quality standards completes the process for each component.
