Officials at Cumberland Coal Resources LP, a subsidiary of Alpha Natural Resources, have temporarily halted production at the Cumberland longwall mine in Greene County, Pa., following adverse geological conditions in the project’s headgate area. While mine employees worked to mitigate the conditions, the project has been idled since July 15, and shipments have ceased, according to Cumberland representatives. Cumberland management anticipates it will be several more weeks before production resumes. Until then, officials added, the asset will maintain its reduced workforce to bring the project back into production.
