Boipelo Mining Contractors won a contract from Universal Coal for mining and related services at New Clydesdale Colliery in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The turnkey contract covers three underground sections of the mine. The company is also responsible for the installation and maintenance of the conveyor and ventilation infrastructure.

Work began in 2019 and Boipelo will reportedly start with the operations on the No. 2 lower, with three continuous miner sections.

The transition to Boipelo has been well-received by the mine’s management and employees, said Charles Makgala, executive partner, Boipelo. “Opportunities do exist in the current operation for expansion and we will continuously be on the lookout to improve efficiencies in order to surpass our contractual obligations,” he said.

The project will employ 175 people. Boipelo, a Level 2 B-BBEE accredited company, is a joint venture between Murray & Roberts Cementation and Makgala’s Amandla TM Group.
