Arch Coal, Inc. announced that Robert W. Shanks has elected to retire as president of Arch’s eastern U.S. operations. Gary L. Bennett, president and general manager of Arch’s Coal-Mac, Inc. subsidiary, has been promoted to president of eastern operations, and J. Chris Sykes has been promoted from mine manager to general manager of Coal-Mac. The company also announced former Wyoming Governor David D. Freudenthal has been elected to its board of directors. He will serve on the board’s audit and energy and environmental policy committees.


Peabody Energy has appointed Richard Robison senior vice president of continuous improvement. The company also announced Murray Hundleby has been named vice president and chief legal officer-Australia, and Rebecca L. Kujawa has been promoted to vice president of business development.


TECO Coal President Jim Shackleford recently announced his retirement. Clark Taylor, vice president and controller, will succeed Shackleford as president.
