Peter Jochums, 79, passed away on May 9, 2021. He managed the family business Hauhinco as a third-generation managing director until 2008 and also accompanied it in an advisory capacity for a number of years. He also served as the president of the Mining Association of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) and, until recently, honorary chairman of this world-renowned business organization for the German mining machinery industry. In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, Jochums was involved in many ways, socially and culturally and also in sports. During his younger years, he was a two-time German amateur golf champion. He was considered a patron of the arts and a generous donor. He was a friend of Coal Age and those who knew him remember him as gregarious person with a sharp wit and a great sense of humor.
