Walter Energy announced that Keith M. Shull was appointed senior vice president, human resources.


Arch Coal, Inc. announced that Jacob Hatch, an employee of Arch subsidiary Canyon Fuel Co., has earned the 2009 J.W. Woomer Award as Young Engineer of the Year by the Society of Mining Engineers. Hatch is an electrical engineer with Canyon Fuel’s Sufco mine near Salina, Utah. He played an important role in improving the underground mine monitoring system, as well as working on improving the overall mine power system. Hatch earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Utah State University.

Converteam, Inc. recently named Barry Johnson business development manager for the mining market. He will be responsible for development of the mining and material handling markets within North America.
