Epiroc announced plans to acquire CR (formerly known as CR Mining), an Australia-based provider of advanced ground engaging tools (GET) and related digital solutions mainly for the mining industry. The acquisition would enhance Epiroc’s underground product line and expand its presence in open-pit mining with a first-rate offering of consumables and digital solutions.

Headquartered in Brisbane, Australia, CR operates globally. The company’s products include cast lips, teeth, and protective shrouds installed on mining buckets and loaders. Its digital solutions include, among other offerings, the real-time GET loss detection system GET Trakka and the Titan 3330 payload management system. The solutions strengthen safety and productivity, and protect against expensive delays in mining operations. CR’s GET offering covers both surface and underground mining.

“This acquisition will expand our offering of innovative and high-quality consumables and digital solutions that strengthen customers’ productivity and safety,” said Helena Hedblom, Epiroc’s President and CEO. “We look forward to welcoming the CR team to Epiroc.”

In addition, to GET and digital solutions, CR also offers training and extensive on-site support. The company has about 400 employees with annual revenues of about A$240 million ($165 million).

“This is a significant milestone event for everyone in the CR business and provides tremendous recognition of the value created by our collective efforts and performance over the recent years. I feel immensely proud of what we have achieved together to become an innovative technology supplier to the global mining industry,” said CR CEO John Barbagallo.

The CR acquisition is expected to be completed in the first half of 2023.

In related news, prior to the CR announcement, Epiroc also agreed to acquire Remote Control Technologies Pty Ltd (RCT), an Australian company that provides automation and remote-control solutions for mining. With this acquisition, Epiroc will further strengthen its position as an automation solutions provider, the company said.
