On Friday, October 11, 2024, gunmen stormed a coal mine in southwest Pakistan and killed 20 miners, according to the Associated Press. The police are searching for the perpetrators. The gunmen rounded up the men before opening fire and they also fired rockets and lobbed grenades at the mine and its machinery. Most of the casualties were from Pashtun-speaking areas of Balochistan. No group claimed immediate responsibility for the incident, but local suspicion is pointing to the Baloch Liberation Army,
a separatist group that seeks independence for the Balochistan region and reportedly targets civilians and security forces.
