The event will be held August 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center in Johnstown.

The keynote speaker will be Alpha Natural Resources Executive Vice President Allen Dupree.

Other presentations include “Resources and Lessons from PA-BMS for Mine Rescue Practices, Training and Development” by Department of Environmental Resources Bureau of Mine Safety Emergency response/training Manager Jeffrey Stanchek; “Latest Innovations for MSHA’s Mine Emergency Operations” by Christopher Snyder and Kim Diederich from MSHA Technical Support; “Enhancing Training for Benching a BG4” by Launa Mallett of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH); and “Escape Respirator Update and Challenges” by NIOSH’s Bob Stein.

Other talks include “Looking Under the Helmet: Recognizing Mental Health Issues in Mine Rescue” by Judith Shabbick, who serves as chairperson of the Mine Families First Response and Communications Advisory Council, Special Medical Response Team; “Good Medicine in Bad Situations” by SMRT’s Rod Shabbick; and “Training Materials for Mine Rescue Instructors,” which will be offered by PSU’s Joseph Flick and mining consultant Joseph DeSalvo.
