The auction is highly anticipated by those in the mining industry as the quantity and type of equipment in the inventory is expected to attract large numbers of bidders from across the country and around the world.

“We’re anticipating that this will be one of the largest auctions in recent memory, and that it will have a far-reaching and lasting impact on those in the open pit mining community.”

More than 150 pieces of equipment are currently consigned to the auction, including a significant amount of Caterpillar mining equipment. The inventory boasts more than 40 Cat mining trucks (789s, 785s and 777s), 20 Cat track-type tractors (D11s, D10s, D9s and D8s) and 21 Cat large wheel loaders (994s through 980s). Additionally, two industry-staple “showcase” pieces of equipment – a Hitachi EX 1900 and a Superior High Wall Miner – are included in the inventory.

Planning for the auction has been in the works for some time as Cat Auction Services, Carter Cat and Southern Coal Corp., led by President and CEO Jim Justice and the Justice family, worked out the details of the sale, thelogistics and the equipment to be included.

Cat Auction Services President Rick Albin said, “We’re thrilled to have been chosen to conduct this sale. It’s been tremendous to work with Southern Coal Corp. and the Justice family, and Carter Cat – one of our 22 Dealer Partners – will continue to provide fantastic support for the auction.”

Albin continued, “We’re anticipating that this will be one of the largest auctions in recent memory, and that it will have a far-reaching and lasting impact on those in the open pit mining community.”

As with other Cat Auction Services events, the high-impact Leaderboard® video display will play a prominent role on auction day, providing bidders with the ability to see each piece of equipment in action. Also key to the sale are the company’s detailed TA-1 inspection reports – widely accepted as the best, most in-depth in the industry. These two elements underscore the company’s commitment to providing buyers with the resources necessary to make an informed bidding decision, according to Albin.

Auction headquarters for the event will be at the Holiday Inn in Norton, Va. Those interested in viewing the equipment prior to the auction are encouraged to contact Cat Auction Services to schedule an appointment. On auction day, bidding will take place both on-site at the Holiday Inn and online via www.catauctions.com.
