In the 1970s, BMT WBM developed the dragline Roller Load Test which enabled the condition of the crucial roller circle to be diagnosed and its service life to be predicted. This paved the way for the company to expand its presence in the North American region back in 1982.
“Over the last 30 years we have built a strong reputation within the mining industry as a company that provides specialized products and expert engineering services to help our customers identify and overcome the most complex of machine operational and maintenance challenges,” said David Proud, business development manager, BMT WBM machinery group.
Based on its dragline test and measurement experience, BMT WBM introduced the first commercially available boom monitoring system in 2001. That product has been continually improved over the years and is now a combined production and machine health monitoring system. In the U.S. marketplace, BMT WBM has sold more than 50 units of this type, more than any other vendor. A similar product for rope shovels was also developed. The breadth and depth of its expertise allows the company to be recognized as the source of knowledge for some of the largest mining companies in the world.
“With the continuing development of larger and more complex mining machines, there is a growing need for BMT WBM’s services in new machine acquisition and in overcoming a range of problems in those units newly commissioned,” said Proud. “Having offices in Australia, the U.S. and Canada allows our highly qualified engineers to share valuable knowledge on the challenges customers face whether it is early structural fatigue cracking or early gearing or bearing failures.”
BMT WBM’s Vancouver office is also celebrating its 15th year of operation. The organization will be exhibiting at this year’s MINExpo INTERNATIONAL.
