“We are honored to receive these prestigious awards which are a testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship in our mining practices,” said President and CEO Charles C. Ungurean. “As the leading producers of surface mined coal in Ohio, Oxford employees embrace their responsibility to be leaders in reclamation. I would like to congratulate them for their diligent efforts.”

The Jockey Hollow mine site was reclaimed using the Forestry Reclamation Approach as part of the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative. This approach uses non-traditional methods to establish a superior growth medium for hardwood forests. Approximately 185 acres have been reclaimed for use by the Ohio Division of Wildlife’s Jockey Hollow Wildlife Area. This area is scheduled to be open to the public this fall.
