CPSA Launches CoalProTec

The Coal Preparation Society of America (CPSA) plans to host its first conference, Coal Processing Technology (CoalProTec), during April 23-25, 2018, in Lexington, Kentucky. The association has taken the action to fill a continuing education void created by Penton, when it decided to discontinue Coal Prep. For those involved in coal processing, 2017 was the first year in more than 30 years without a Coal Preparation Conference & Exhibition, more widely known as the Coal Prep show. Penton canceled the 2017 event, compounding the negative impact of the unwise decision to move the event to Louisville from Lexington in 2016.

Strata Acquires Precision Mine Repair Assets

Strata Mine Services has acquired Precision Mine Repair Inc. (PMR) of Ridgway, Illinois. Established in 1995, PMR became a market leader in underground ventilation control structures and mining construction services. Included in the acquisition is an EVG 3D EPS panel machine, which is used to fabricate the 3-D panels of the patented PMR ventilation seals and overcasts.

GE Modernizes Turkish Power Plants

As part of its Powering Efficiency Center of Excellence (CoE) capabilities, GE’s Power Services business will provide its Fleet360 total plant solutions to modernize two Turkish lignite-fired coal power plants for Yeniköy Kemerköy Elektrik Üretim ve Ticaret. The upgrade of the two facilities will help increase total capacity by 197.5 megawatts (MW), while also significantly decreasing plant emissions. The upgrades will also improve plant efficiency from 34% to up to 40%.

TMT Software Saves Time and More Accurately Tracks Labor Costs

When Summit Materials found itself faced with an “asset maintenance challenge,” it turned to TMW Systems for a solution. Operating from 57 maintenance facilities across North America, the aggregate producer implemented the TMT Fleet Maintenance management solution to centralize and streamline in-house maintenance and repair operations. For the past year, the company also has used the TMT mobility app, Mobile Mechanic Workstation, at 35 of those locations to enable real-time management of remote service activity.
