Russia Predicts Strong 2016 Production Goal

Russia Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky said recently that the country’s coal production outlook for 2016 will be kept at 390 million metric tons (mt), a 4% year-over-year increase. The official, according to Russian news agency TASS, said he wants to maintain the country’s export dynamics for this year.

“In Russia, we have an average of 6% (per six months),” he said. Kemerovo Gov. Aman Tuleey added that production of coal in his region, the largest in the country, may hit 220 million mt this year, a 2% increase over last year. Last year the Kuzbass, the heart of the coal-rich area where 59% of Russian coal output originates, reported a total 215.8 million mt.
