Coal Prices Move Higher in Australia

Prices for Australian thermal coal from its Newcastle terminal, seen as the Asian benchmark, have increased more than 35% since mid-June highs of $70 a per metric ton (mt), Reuters reported. Increases in Chinese imports have pushed prices higher.

Restrictions on domestic production introduced earlier this year have lifted prices globally for major coal exporters, such as Glencore and Anglo American, but also for regional Asian players like Thailand’s Banpu.
