Sixth Siwertell Unloader Ordered for Mai-Liao Power Plant

Siwertell, part of Cargotec, has secured a contract to supply a sixth unloader for the Mai-Liao power plant in Taiwan. Five large Siwertell unloaders are currently in operation supplying coal to the 4,200-MW facility, the third largest in the country. Three of the unloaders were delivered in 2001 and two in 2006.

Huesker Responds to EPA Coal Ash Regulations

As a leading geosynthetics supplier, Huesker is keeping its finger on the pulse of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations regarding coal combustion residuals (CCRs). The “EPA has undertaken a concerted effort to identify and to assess the structural integrity of impoundments, ponds, and other management units, within the electric power generating industry, managing wet-handled coal combustion residuals,” said Sven Schröer, CEO, Huesker. “The EPA’s regulations and their impact on the electric power generating industry will greatly affect how CCRs are handled in the coming years.” Huesker is actively advising power generator as far as compliance with the EPA and individual state rulings.

Coalview Achieves Milestones at Centralia

Coalview celebrated its first year anniversary of commissioning the Centralia fine coal recovery (FCR) plant, which operates 24/7. “We are pleased with the progress our team has made at the Centralia FCR plant,” said Roger Fish, CEO of Coalview. “Plant construction was finished on time and on budget. In spite of several obstacles, we were able to achieve high efficiency along with high availability that is significantly better than industry standard.”

Thorwesten Installs Lignite Silo

Based in Beckum, Germany, Silobau Thorwesten has been awarded several portions of the tender to rebuild a large-scale power plant in Cottbus, Germany. The core piece of the order is a large-capacity silo and the controls for storing up to 1,430 m³ of pulverized lignite. The silo has a diameter of 9 m, a height of 40.5 m and it is 2-bar pressure shock resistant. The unit is equipped with a filter system and explosion doors. The explosion protection and suppression equipment for the silo were supplied by Thorwesten Vent.
