On June 28, Teck Resources reported an explosion occurred in the coal dryer at Teck’s Greenhills coal mine near Elkford, British Columbia. Damage to the dryer building was extensive, but no one was injured. Structural engineers and representatives of the Canadian Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources are conducting a preliminary site assessment.
In the meantime, Greenhills mine is processing coal at the nearby Fording River facilities. Teck has an 80% interest in Greenhills. Greenhills’ planned 2010 production was approximately 4.3 million metric tons of metallurgical coal. |
