Australia’s Airly Mine Loads First Train of Export Coal |

Centennial Coal said its Airly mine has loaded the first train bound for South Korea via Port Kembla. “The Pacific National train was fully loaded with 3,300 metric tons of thermal coal, providing the ideal conditions to test the coal-loading equipment and rail infrastructure, which all performed well,” said Centennial Coal Managing Director Bob Cameron. The Airly continuous miner operation produced its first thermal coal in December. The company is aiming for 1.6- to 1.8-million-mtpy coal from the mine. |

Mongolian Energy to Deliver its First Coking Coal |

Mongolia Energy Corp. (MEC) will deliver its first coking coal from its Khushuut project in western Mongolia. The company has also secured a Chinese anchor customer and will supply at least 9.6- to 10-million metric tons (mt) during the next 10 years.

Rio Tinto Produces First Coal from Clermont Mine |

Rio Tinto said it has produced its first 5,000 metric tons (mt) of coal from the new Clermont mine in central Queensland. Australia’s newest thermal coal mine cost $1 billion to develop and is expected to produce more than 12 million mt of high quality thermal coal per year, over the next 17 years, according to Australian Business.
