VR Steel recently announced the completion of the largest fabricated rope shovel bucket in the world. At a size of 59 cubic meters and weighing in at 89 metric tons (mt), the new VR Dipper is a feat of modern engineering. This first-of-its-kind VR Dipper was designed for the P&H 4100 XPC Shovel. It took five months to complete and was solely designed and manufactured by engineers and designers at VR Steel’s headquarters in Alberton, South Africa.

This particular VR Dipper was manufactured for a coal mine in China’s Shanxi province. This mine, the largest open-cast coal mine in Asia, is currently undergoing massive expansion and will soon be one of the largest open-cast coal mines in the world.

“We are extremely proud to be the first company in the world to have designed and manufactured the biggest rope shovel bucket ever made right here on South African soil,” said John van Reenen, managing director, VR Steel. “We are represented in Australia, the U.S., China, India and Canada, but in the future, due to the strength of the exchange rate, all further manufacture of these VR Dippers for export will be done at our Shanghai base.” www.vrsteel.com
