Since it purchased the Anvil project in Australia from Centennial Coal for $425 million in September 2007, Xstrata has invested nearly $1 billion to bring the now-named Mangoola coal mine to production in 2011-12. Located about 20 km west of Muswellbrook in New South Wales, the surface mine is set to deliver 10.5 million metric tons (mt) per year of raw coal.

This atmospheric monitoring system, which uses an Allen Bradley PLC, was designed to provide continuous monitoring of CO and other toxic and combustible gases, as well as to give the end user the ability to continuously monitor and control all other processes for underground mining operations.
