Arch Coal announced that Charles G. Snavely has elected to retire as president of the company’s eastern U.S. operations, following a 35-year career in the coal industry. Upon joining Arch in 2011, Snavely helped lead the company’s integration of ICG. He will continue serving Arch in a consultancy role through 2014. Gary L. Bennett will succeed Snavely as president of eastern operations. Bennett will have responsibility for all aspects of Arch’s eastern subsidiary operations as well as the eastern engineering group. Bennett joined Arch as a senior engineer in 1990. He most recently served as vice president of operations support.

Bradley E. HansonSignal Peak Energy named Bradley E. Hanson president and CEO, effective January 1. Hanson is succeeding John DeMichiei, who is retiring from the company. Hanson has 36 years of mining experience and, since Q2 2010, has been the COO of Signal Peak.

Rhino appointed Christopher I. Walton as president and CEO of Rhino GP LLC, the general partner of the partnership. David G. Zatezalo has assumed the role of chairman of the board of directors and will continue his employment with the partnership in a role that requires a reduced time commitment. Mark Zand, former chairman, will remain a director of Rhino GP LLC.

Charles “Chuck” Dunbar, project acquisitions manager for Arch Coal, was honored as a Distinguished Engineer of Mines by West Virginia University’s (WVU) Department of Mining Engineering. Dunbar was recognized on the WVU campus in Morgantown where he gave the keynote address as part of the William N. Poundstone Lecture Series on September 18.
